Now that you finally explored step 1 and introduced majority of the purees to your little one you can start to move on to Step 2. What is step 2? Basically you can now start with thicker textures and explore many different mixed flavours.
My step two was introducing all the allergens, such-as as eggs, peanuts etc… Then I did all the different types of meat such-as chicken, turkey, ham, beef and horse meat. I then moved on to fish. Once I tried all these new foods, I started to mix his favorite with veggies and fruits.
Now depending how you feel about it you can either buy your purees or even try to make them yourself. I did both and had a variety of both homemade and bought.
MY FAVORITE PUREES TO MAKE HOMEMADE
- Chicken Brodo with carrots and potatoes, I made a big batch then mashed it with my blender put them in ice cube trays and froze them.
- Minestrone soup, another favorite with a lot of vegetables inside, I also made a big batch mashed it with my blender put them in ice cube trays and froze them.
- Beef stew
- Leek soup I kept this soup thick enough for him to try different textures but still pureed.
- Cresty soup, I also kept this soup thick enough for him to try different textures but still pureed.
FAVORITE HOMEMADE VEGTABLE PUREES
- Carrots and potatoes together
- Zucchini and sweet potato
- Carrots and sweet potato
- Butternut squash and sweet potato
- Spinach and carrots and zucchini
- Kale spinach and carrot
All my veggies and soups were made with little amount of salt and no extra spices at first. I eventually started to integrate spices one at a time. Check out all my baby food recipes here
FAVORITE HOMEMADE FRUIT PUREES
- Apples and Pears
- Raspberry and Strawberries, this one was a bit hard because you have to make sure to strain all berries of seeds.
- Berries mixed
- Cantaloup and banana smoothie
- Banana puree
- Avocado puree
- Avocado and Banana
After attempting berries a few times I did end up buying most of my berry purees. Here is why, They were very bitter when done with fresh berries and you need to make sure to boil them then strain them properly. So it was simpler and faster to buy them in my opinion. Another one of my favorite things to do was to buy frozen fruits and make them into smoothies, whether they were already mixed or I used to create my own mixes with his favorite fruits and veggies. I also got to enjoy a fresh smoothie myself.
Although this may seem very overwhelming to some, do take it one step at a time and enjoy yourself while doing it. There is no need to overwhelm yourself with trying to do everything at once. Again this was my step 2, baby lead-weaning was just something that was not for me.
