Pasta Sauce

Pasta Recipes

Every year from when I was born the tradition in my family is to make homemade tomato sauce in the month of September. Although we dont make as much as we used to, we still get together and keep the tradition alive.

For those of you that do not make homemade tomato sauce, you can use the canned versions of passata (emma, molta, molisanna and many more). The following recipe is used with jar liquid sauce. I do not use the cans or diced or chunked tomato’s although you can. I will put up a recipe for that.

Hope you enjoy this homemade tomato sauce. Bon Apetito!

Ingredients

  • splash Oil
  • 1 tsp of Salt
  • 1 tbsp of Sugar
  • 2 jars of tomato sauce (I use one homemade and one Passata)
  • 1/2 can of Tomato paste
  • 1 clove of Garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 onion peeled

Instructions

  1. In a sauce add your garlic clove, whole onion, 1/2 can of tomato paste and splash of oil.
  2. Turn you stove top to medium high and wait till everything simmers, but make sure not to burn it.
  3. Add in both jars of Tomato Sauce.
  4. Add in Salt and Sugar and Bay Leaf.
  5. Stir.
  6. Turn the burner to high and wait till it comes to a boil.
  7. Once it starts to boil, lower your burner to low 1-2 and cover the sauce.
  8. Leave on for 1.5 – 2 hours, stir from time to time.
  9. Once it is done, remove the onion, bay leaf and garlic from the sauce, and serve with your pasta.

After an hour you can also add 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese.
Also if you have a sensitive stomach you can omit tomato paste.
